Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving, What Is It?

Jago Cattle Dog Hero of the Carolinas, a highly capable super hero, reporting for MagicWithDogs.com

There are round leafy things stuck to doors around town, ‘wreaths’ I believe they’re called.  Also those large round orange and yellow veggies, arranged artfully on doorsteps.  Apparently they're know as 'Gourds'.  Why may I not pee on them?  They're not usually there and need marking!  Why don't humans want to pee on them??  What does it all mean???

I looked it up on Wikipedia and found out that it’s all to do with being grateful.  Apparently some humans were nice to each other at some point, and so they all decided to eat something together afterwards and were very grateful.  I can get behind that!

I’m grateful a lot of the time.  Grateful she (my human) remembers to fill the bowl regularly.  Grateful that slimy tennis ball's been replaced with a spanking new one.  As you know we have no objection to a spot of ball seasoning...but please.  I'm especially grateful for my new memory foam bed, even if she did make it by cutting up left over foam from her old mattress topper.  I'm grateful for all sorts of things.  However I'm grateful year round!  Why are thy only grateful once a year?  Baffling!

Unless they go out for Thanksgiving – generally for hours – then it seems to include a lot of coming & going in the visitor department.  Fine by me provided some respect is paid to my personal space.  Especially where the short 'darty' noisy human puppies are concerned.  Just be sure to explain a few basics to them:

If we haven’t already met,  ask my human first if it’s ok to say hello.  Hands down, so I can have an exploratory sniff.  Then some very gentle patting under the chin and around the ears, accompanied by a few quiet words of encouragement.  No over-enthusiastic 'whacking' on the top the the head please! Although I understand you mean well, that sort of thing can be a little disconcerting and sometimes leads to regrettable misunderstandings with less enlightened dogs than me.

I’m delighted to be invited to play.  However when I retire to my bed, my corner of the couch, or under the table...this indicates I would like to be left in peace until further notice.

Happy Thanksgiving!
